[Antennas] G5RV antennas

Hi Larry:

Neither have any appreciable gain. The 50 footer should be good for 40 meters through 10 meters and the 102 footer [why did you add 2 feet?] for 80 meters through 10 meters. As you probably know, you will need a turner on most, if not all, of the bands.

Since G5RVs must be strung in a flat top configuration, it is my experience that an inverted vee dipole from the same height with additional dipoles for other bands sharing the single coaxal feed line will out perform the G5RV. If you hang the G5RV in an inverted vee configuration, you will experience wave cancelling and, in general, a poor performing antenna.

Like any horizonal wire antenna, the higher the better. Preferably 1/2 wavelength or more off the ground at the lowest frequency you intend to operate.

   Good luck.

Subject: [Antennas] G5RV antennas

Hello I have 2 G5RV antennas and have been wondering if any of these
have any kind of Gain <as in db> on em. I was in conversation with a 6 meter
ham and he and I have used the shorter versions on 6. I had many good
contacts. My 2 antennas are both different types. One is 50 feet and is the
Ladder type. And the other is the 102 foot one<i modified it to 104 ft> and
is like the one publish inthe ad in Universal radio catalog.

Thanks Larry Fields, n6hpx/du1

_________________________________________________________________
Protect your PC - get McAfee.com VirusScan Online
http://clinic.mcafee.com/clinic/ibuy/campaign.asp?cid=3963

- - -

Your moderator for this list is:
Larry Wilson KE1HZ [email protected]
_______________________________________________
Antennas mailing list
[email protected]
http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/antennas
