Fw: [Antennas] Without "traps"

I have had one individual state to my benefit there are 6dB per s unit.
 e.g."6 DB PER "S" UNIT"

Also another individual said my logic about the Force Mfg antennae lacks
the same credibilty.

"Hey John FYI There are 6 db per S Unit on my radio, also your logic
about the Force Mfg antennae lacks the same credibility."
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------
Sorry, check with the ARRL, it is now 4dB and most manufacturers of
receivers are programming their S meters to 4 dB per s unit
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------

My opinion is i would never put up an antenna which has rivets after reading
the comments both of this reflector and eham. That started me thinking of
the wind gusts and how poor rivets are. They move. And moveable parts cause
loss and stress. They will work their way out of the position.

In addition to that if one does the math, is the fact their boom length on
their tribanders, (non-trap antennas), is shorter than the Mosleys. I was
ALWAYS taught that gain is a product of boom length. Consequently, loss of
power. And they utilize a balun.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------
WHAT, there is no loss in a balun!!!

One never hears of the loss in a balun!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------

Sure Mosley "elevates" their gain, but read your ARRL Antenna Book and spend
time going through the Math and understand the principles involved in gain.
It will take a year or more but once you understand the principles and
working thru the equations, you will appreciate and understand more of what
the manufacturers are telling you.

This is not a slam dunk of any manufacturer. This is our hobby and OUR
RESPONSIBILITY AS HAMS when we took our test for the license. Knowledge
doesnt stop with our ticket. It is a stepping stone to increase our
knowledge and grow. Spend time with the Antenna theory books and grind it
out.

The main thing is to have fun and enjoy the this thing. BUT TAKE THE TIME
AND EDUCATE OURSELVES.
