Hart,I always take a piece of some good insulation material, usually
about 3" by 2" by 3/4" thick and mount an SO239 on it. Drill a hold
about 1/2" in diameter at the center about half way through to
accommodate the center pin of the connector and 1/4" holes near both
ends for the antenna wire. Drill a hole lengthwise from one end into the
center hole to accommodate a wire from the center pin. Solder a short
piece of wire to the center pin, and another short piece of wire to the
shielded side of the connector. Run these wires to the end holes. The
antenna wires run through the same holes, usually wraped around a couple
of times to provide strain relief, and solder to the short wires from
the connector.
I'll be happy to snap a quick picture of one and send it to you if you
like.
