[Antennas] antenna comparisons

>Curious to see what all the hype is with the force 12 antennas

Not so sure it's hype at all ... different, certainly, but hype? Naaa ...

Actual models of their antennas seem to track very close to
their stated numbers ... and there are no "what about trap loss"
type of guess-o-mations to make ...

A C3 is really a full size 2L yagi with the proper spacing for
each band ... something that you can't do with a TA33, but by
doing so, the C3 can deliver some believable numbers ...

(Look at some of Mosley's "numbers" ... and they use traps!)

>I like others find this not a hard accomplishment because one
>can work 200 or more countries using an ordinary dipole.

Very true ... or even with an antenna with trap losses ... in
fact that ordinary dipole might even have GAIN over some
of the ultra-small trapped <read very lossy> antennas ...

>... found out the c3s antenna arrives at your home in a 4 foot
>box and is put together using rivets!

And your point here is? Different yes, worse ... maybe not ...

>I am not downing this antenna but can someone who has
>put one of these antennas on the air give me some
>comparison studies?

The K7LXC study has been mentioned, I have a copy of it
and overall as to 'apples to apples', they did a good job ...

Let me warn you ... the joke on Mosleys, is that they are called
"negative gain" yagis among some contesters/DXers. Solid
and HD no doubt as to mechanical performance ... but not on
the cutting edge of electrical performance.

>... with its Excellent construction and reliability.

For years, I have used Mosley parts for many of the HB antenna
projects here ... just keep in mind that strong mechanical construction
is NO guarantee of similar electrical performance. QSL?

Having F/B does not equal efficiency nor prove that gain really
exists, or doesn't exist ... ditto for "flat SWR" ...

>What about you hams who used one of these Mosleys and tried
>another antenna and went back to a Mosley.

I think you might be very surprised at how few ever come back ...

The TA33 was designed in the mid to late 50's as I recall ... from
the W3DZZ(?) idea in the handbooks ... and many are still in service
after years of use. Just as the autos we drive today have changed
since the 50's, so have some of the ideas as to antennas and their
electrical performance. Do they work? Certainly ... Today are there
better electrical designs to also consider? Certainly ...

For the HB artist ... a F-12 type design using the SS & mechanical
ideas from Mosley, Wilson, and/or Hy-Gain would be a really great
project to build and use ... for a long long time ...
