[Antennas] Stacking or Phased array 2m antennas

I was looking on the ARRL website and found an article
on a 2 meter phased array consisting of 2 1/4 wave
groundplane antennas. I was wondering what would
happen if I built two of the arrays and mounted them
1/4 wave apart. I am new to antenna building (This
will be the first). Would this work and what kind of
results could I expect.
Each array as described in the article is fed by coax
so that the antennas are 135 degrees out instead of 90.
I hope that makes sense to you as it does not to me,
yet, except that one antenna is actually fed the signal
slightly before the other one. The one I want to build
will use the same harness as the article with each
separate harness fed with an odd mutliple of 1/4 wave
for 146.00.
The article claims (if I remember correctly) about 6 dB
gain with just the two antennas.
I hope this makes sense to all. Thanks for any help or
suggestions.
