There has been some very good comments about what will work and what will not.
As someone said, try anything and get on the air or forget about ham radio and
do not get on the air. Many years ago I had one of those RS-6 spy rigs that
I had mounted in a brief case. Used to work as a security guard at night and
would take the rig with me and using a piece of about 45 feet long run out a
window to any convenient holder and worked all over the states on the low end
of 80 and 40 using CW and about 8-10 watts output. Currently I am running
100 watts to a 80 meter full wave loop up about 25 feet and a tuner. The
results have been good. I get almost the same reports on 40 meters in the
morning as the guy next door who is using a 2 element beam at 75 feet when
working the northeast US. So try anything, regardless how stupid it sounds
and have fun.
