[Antennas] need some help with a Ameco PT-3

Don't think there is a Ameco group.
Figured maybe some of the Low Band antennatites may be able to help.

Bought a PT-3. Don't seem to work well.
On 160-80, it does amplify the signals
But from 20 and up, It actually degrades the signal.
For instance:
On 10 meters, turn it on, set band selector and adjust tune.
For almost all of the TUNE range, signal is greatly degraded.
But for a very very tiny spot on the knob, the signal will seem normal
But not amplified.

This unit has the extra antenna selector option installed.

Can anybody give me a clue as to where to start?
