The handheld AM radio with the bar antenna internal is a good choice..
I used that many times on RFI/TVI jobs while working in the telecom
dept for Gulf States Utitities....(did that for 12 years..I was the
only ham in the dept and the main 2way/RF guy soon after joining)
ALSO get a VHF rcvr (220 or high VHF) AM rcvr with a yagi to
pinpoint the source once you get close...but use the AM to get a
general idea...triangulate the source...if its bad, it may be more
than one source....and of course power lines act as antennas...the
signal can travel for MILES from the actual source..but using
a two or three crosspoint readings and then using the VHF rcvr to
close in will get you there....Of course you can also call the
local power/wires company that maintains the lines, etc...they ARE
responsible to get rid of the noise....Just ask Riley at the FCC :)
