Hi Ed--
The Sierpinsky bowtie you show is not that gentleman's design; it is his
drawing. The "design" (actually antenna structure) has been recently
protected through a utility patent (US 6,452,553).
The Sierpinsky bowtie was first fabricated in 1989. I know; I was the one who
did it;-) I have built many other fractal antennas before it and virtually
countless ones since.
As I have often stated, I see no problem with hams experimenting with fractal
antennas for non-commercial purposes. In my opinion, please leave the
drawings up on your web site, and kindly note the proper design attribution
as mentioned.
On a related item, I do, on occasion, provide select files for simulation by
hams, but have concerns about copyright infringement (unauthorized use), and
information getting to those it is not intended for. I can be convinced to
provide files to individuals with sincere and genuine needs, for the sake of
ham experimentation. Further discussions with me on this, if any, should be
via e-mail.
Best to all,
Chip N1IR
