George, etal. Terry sent a diagram of his antenna and
description from the ARRL Handbook. In my 1997
Handbook, p 20-17, it is called an RFD antenna and
comes from W2OZH in Aug 91, QST.
It is a JPole look alike with 1/4 wavelength of coax
for the base and another 1/4 wave of wire for the top.
THe article was intended as a portable type antenna
where one continuous piece of coax is used for the
feedline and base. THe base length is determined by
where the balun is placed. This is an intriguing
design and should work. I believe one has to check for
resonance at the shack end and then add another piece
of coax and check for resonance again to ensure that
the system is balanced properly. IF resonance changes
then the balun is not working.
I would like to hear reports as to how this thing
loads up and whether achiving resonance is easy or not.
