Yes, it can be done quite easily with stronger and smoother seams than
you've ever seen!  Cast Iron, Aluminum, Stainless, they can even be soldered
together!  Check the local welding shop, they have kits to do all this.  Be
SURE to get the kits with the flux and roll of solder together, the aluminum
welding rod you see the fellows at swapmeets and fairs is a pathetic joke at
best.  I also saw the kits in a catalog around here somewhere, if you can't
fnd it locally, I'll try to find the catalog and get you the webpage.  The
kits usually cost aout $7
