I could never decide whom to feel sorry for at the power station -- the
storeman or the students.

The students were regularly sent to the store for:

-  a bottle of emery sparks
-  a tin of elbow grease
-  a long weight
   (of course the storeman would keep them waiting for a long time, before
   sending them back to the workshop)
