Fully agree.
I have had some of the black (rubber?) ones deteriate faster than the round 
ones with braided colour fabric over.  I use only for shot trips to hold 
the trunk lid (boot top)down, hold lumber together.  I donot trust them for 
any length of time.  For a motorcycle, leather cinch belts are best, or, 
nylon (?) straps with wratched system to hold down tight.

My nephew was tying down some stuff in his small truck.  The bundgie did a 
jump, he lost some skin  on his face and some flesh on his hand.  Sling 
shot is right.
