To All,
Here's an FYI.
Let me tell you of an experience by a friend, using an Alpha-Delta Dipole -
their expensive 80 - 10 meter version. While using the antenna on DX at 920
watts output after approx. one hour of use, SWR good, no antenna tuner etc.,
his next door neighbor came running over to tell him that his roof was on
fire. In a panic, he of course ran outside to take a look and see - well,
what was happening was that the plastic center insulator has gotten so hot
that it literally melted and caught on fire dripping on my roof and causing
the tar shingles to catch on fire. Quick use of a garden hose put the fire
out fortunately.
He contacted Alpha-Delta to inquire what could have caused this, and they
wanted no part of this and quite frankly washed their hands and ignored his
complaint. Oh well, another satisfied Ham Antenna customer!!
Will he, or I ever use an Alpha-Delta Product again, I don't think so!!
Ron, N6PWW
