Hi Paul,

I can believe it. And, of course, since you have an antenna above your
house, all your neighbors were just SURE it was you causing them to miss
the Super Bowl, even though you were our trying to find the source of all
the RF. Heheheh...I have the same problem here. There is a ham just
behind me and another one a few blocks away, but there is an 11 meter
operator (using the term operator loosely) two doors down from me running
illegally (over 100 watts, probably more, but I've heard him brag about
running power). The CB guy gets into my phones, my tvs, my computer
speakers, etc. Do any of the hams do that? No. Now, I've done a lot of
RFI work to rid myself of the filth coming from down the street, but I
still get some of it. His radio has been modified to get a "fat
signal". Fat. They call it fat. It's called splatter...and he can be
heard on my scanner all the way up to 40 Mhz!
I thought I was rid of him for a while. He took down his antenna (has a
vertical, but had put up a 4 element MoonRaker, took that down and put the
vertical back up) and was gone for a couple of months. He had put his
place up for sale by owner and I thought he had sold it, but he's back and
the vertical is back up now.
The funny thing is, he has such a trash mouth and has made so many enemies,
if he leaves for any length of time, he has to take his antenna down to
keep someone from ripping it down for him (not me, other 11 meter
users...can't really call them operators). I was talking to a couple of
hams here about him and one suggested I try to recruit him into ham radio,
make him legal. The other said we sure didn't want his type in ham
radio. If he was willing to run 11 meters illegally, what makes us think
he would abide by Part 97 rules either? Good point. Some people from 11
meters would make great amateurs, this guy probably would not. You never
know...he might make a great ham radio operator, but I'm not willing to
chance bringing a problem into the hobby. The FCC can be too slow to deal
with a problem like that.

Wayne
