Chad,

The CFA topic was throughly discussed on this reflector (and on TowerTalk) a
couple of years ago. It resulted in several bruised egos, a couple of
people permanently kicked off the reflector(s), and a thorough understanding
of the mathematics and science of antenna engineering. If you dig through
the list archives, you'll find yourself buried in information, insults,
accusations, etc.

I believe the general concensus was that the CFA is about equal (or maybe
+0.5 dB) to a Heath Cantenna. If you have an open mind and are willing to
accept verbal findings which contradict known laws of physics and for which
a formula can not be witten with current mathematics, then the CFA will give
you F12 C-31XR performance in a package the size of Cantenna.

p.s. Please, no flames (direct or to the refelector).

Subject: [Antennas] cfa antennas

thanks for the replies.
am quite interested in antenna research and anything new is certianly going
to draw my attention yet based upon the available data i cant help but at
this point agree in the "voodoo science" train of thought. The very few
explanations I can find on the subject are all spoken in theorems and
equations. Every other antenna style and model I know of can be described
and explained in plain english using common math and smith charts. Why is
this not the case with CFA's? With a large enough tuner i can work dx on
twenty using fifty watts and a brass door-knob.
