[Antennas] attic stealth dipole

I was once told by my grade school teacher that there is no such thing as a silly question...
So here goes...
I'm considering stringing a stealth dipole in my attic...
Is there any significant benefit in using ceramic insulators on the ends of a dipole versus the plastic variety?
For that matter, couldn't one use any plastic item as an end insulator? For example a PVC 0.5 inch "T" fitting which goes for 24 cents at your local hardware? Bear in mind that there is no wind stress on the antenna in the attic.
I presume the ceramic insulators cost more than that but do they provide any benefit over plactic/PVC?
Other concerns I have relate to the composition of asphalt shingles affecting the antenna.
Anyone have any comments on this issue?
