Mike,
You can use a 10" section of tower for the base section encased in
concrete. It is not necessary to buy the Rohn base section. Perahps the
thinking is that in the future you may move to another QTH....if your 10"
section is in concrete, you will have to hack-saw the tower off and end up
with a non-standard piece of tower, where as if you use the Rohn base
section, you merely unbolt the intact bottom 10' section of tower and move
it.
Please be aware of the proper method of installing the base to prevent
water accumulating in the legs of the tower and bursting it.
