I would buy new galvanized bolts from Rohn. It might not be cheaper, but they
will be good quality. They are fine threaded and I believe the nuts are self
locking. If the tower will be unguyed, the holes in the legs will enlongate
and the bolts may loosen.
Beware of 'hardware store' and 'Lowe's' bolts, regardless of the Grade
markings. Most of this stuff is imported and of questionable quality (I use a
lot of bolts from Ace, Lowe's, and Tractor Supply, but never, ever, where
safety is involved. I build street rods and race cars and all fastners are
aerospace quality. You would be surprised how little extra they cost.
Although stainless sounds like a good idea, there will be problems with
galling unless precautions are taken.
On my last tower, I used Rohn hardware, 'cause everything was new. However, I
knew in advance that the tower was only temporary. I used Moly on the bolts
and white lithium grease on the male/female portions. After 2 years in the
air, it came down easier than it went up..... Nothing (?) worse than sections
stuck together! ugggh
