Well, I still can't get the 40 meter Iron Horse to tune any better than =
3 to 1. I have been using an MFJ-945 E to get the swr down to a better =
level. Unfortunately I have found that my mount simply is too low and is =
not going to work. I have already ruined one piece of coax by dragging =
it on the ground when I back off my hill. I went to a right angle =
connector and while it's still on I have been dragging it also. The =
mount simply will not work. I attended the Knoxville Hamfest today and =
bought a small mount that is for the front of the van between the hood =
and body on the drivers side. There isn't much flat surface to bolt to =
but I will see if I can adapt it somehow. The makers of the Dodge =
Caravan must be stuck on roundness or something. Every darn piece and =
corner of the van is round. I'm not even sure I can find somewhere to =
mount the face of the 706 with out improvising. If all else fails I am =
going to get a tri-mag mount and an outbacker stealth and to heck with =
it. I have been told this is a very poor performing antenna though. This =
inhales rapidly. I am having no mobile fun at present. In addition my =
Alinco DR-610 has gone south. It won't pass transmit audio. I sent it =
off to ATOC to have it fixed and have temporarily replaced it with a =
Kenwood TM 732 which I do not like. Oh well Murphy's megahertz law has =
struck. Any condolences and or scolding would be appreciated. Just be =
gentle.=20
