John, you have the best feeder possible for a G5RV, ie,
no coax.  The losses on coax can be exhorbitant,
depending on the frequency and the coax type.  My own
analysis shows 10dB+ loss on bands out of tune(like 10
mHz) with 70' of rg58, for example.  

 Leave the excess ladder line outside the shack, attach
a simple balun between it and a very short piece of
coax to the rig.

 I would reccommend for anyone else to replace the coax
with odd multiples of 1/2 wavelength ladder line. The
losses never exceed 1 dB on all bands after that. 
However, your tuner will notice a big difference in
input SWR to match because the coax losses are gone!
