Greetings to the group. I have a buddy with a 40 acre parcel of land in the
mountains that will allow me to put up wire antennas suspended by the trees.
The terrain is rolling hills with 50' plus pine trees. I made a 7 Mhz loop
and had good results with it. Without a tuner, I had good swr on 40, 14,
21 and 10 meters. I have been reading lots of articles about the loop
skywire antenna, etc. There is no substitute for experience. So, I would
like to ask for your experiences. I have heard that a ham in the northwest
has a 1500' loop and does really well with it. Here comes the questions:
with the modeling programs or your own experiences, would I be better off
stringing as much wire as I can get over the trees to make the loop as big
as possible and use a tuner, or should I cut the loop to the formula
1005/F=length in feet? My goal here is to use an antenna that does not
require a rotator and has good stateside coverage. Would like to go to 80
meters at night, or possibly 160 meters, but using math (3.7 x 2,3,4,etc)
doesn't seem to come close to the 40 meter loop. That's where I need your
help. Planning to operate the next CQP from this location and if I can come
up with a loop that will not require a tuner and be resonant...then again, I
do want to win the lottery. Thanks in advance for your help, 73, Dave ,
