I did this last year, and it worked, but not great.
Scenario: Two 50 foot towers, 2 3el 17m yagis, tower bases 17m apart. Antennas fed in phase. When beaming NW and SE from here, the antennas were both pointing at the target. When beaming NE or SW one of the antennas was 'firing through' the other one. I remember that the major benefit was on the receive side, pulling out signals that I could not normally copy, probably because of a diversity effect. On the transmit side, it did not make that much difference.
When 'firing through' I did not notice much difference either. I soon took down the second antenna as the layout did not provide enough benefits to be worthwhile.
If I could, I would have vertically stacked the second antenna at, say, 80ft on the same tower as the other one and have them switchable. This would have been much more useful, as would have given me the ability to select optimum radiation angle, as well as providing gain.
Best regards, Geoff
