The issue of ladder line routing comes up with some regularity on this
reflector and others. There are certainly established and technically sound
criteria for routing ladder line and whenever possible it's good practice to
adhere to the established norms. On the other hand, if an alternate
installation is required for your application and it is >safe< and doesn't
violate local codes, have at it and enjoy your hobby! As an example, for a
long time I ran about 50 feet of ladder line underground through 1" PVC
line. While the hard shale around here is a reasonably good dielectric, I'm
sure I had a lot of power loss. Still, with my 100 watts, or so, I worked
pretty much anyone I heard, had a flexible, all-band antenna, and had fun!
Yes, I understood the technical consequences of ladderline underground in
PVC but I enjoyed my hobby and rarely went unanswered on a call!
