I'm curious about an aspect of the Radio Works Carolina Windom (approx 136'
length) for 160 ops. It seems to me that the vertical downlead from center
feedpoint to the lower choke balun (seems like it's around 32' or so of
cable) is what is doing the radiating on 160m. Is this the primary
radiating element when used on 160m? If so, what we're really dealing with
is a top loaded vertical. I guess there is some horizontal radiation too,
but more soup probably goes out on the vertical component. Which isn't
really a bad thing for 160m work. Many of the commercial verticals with
160m capability aren't a lot longer than 32'.
