[Antennas] Question reg. multiband dipole - balun

Hi everybody,

thanks for the comments I got...

But these comments raised new questions:

- Do I still need the 1:4 Balun if I am going to use ladder line all the
way to the tuner? The tuner (Vectronics 300 W tuner) has an integrated 1:4
Balun (but it is probably too weak :( ) Currently I am using this tuner (in
coax mode) with abt. 350 W SSB and it is working flawlessly...But I doubt
that it will work with the integrated Balun.

- Can I use the Balun (1:4) inside the house and connect it to the COAX
input of the tuner with a very very short cable? Does that have any effect
on the rf distribution?

- One user suggested that I should run two coax cables to the balun? Which
connector do I have to use at the tuner? Balanced or unbalanced... I think
unbalanced (the balanced line is unbalanced through the balun)... But why
do I have to run two cables?

- Imagine the following situation (pretty similar to #1): I use ladder line
all the way from the antenna to the tuner. The integrated balun is too
weak. Therefore I want to use a stronger one. How can I connect this balun
to the tuner to have full tuning possibilies (which is necessary because
the antenna itself is not resonant on all bands)

Sorry for these really silly questions but I really want to make this thing
work "perfect". It is an antenna for a holiday QTH and therefore I can't
test it here under the conditions I find there.

I have tons of literature abt. antennas... but none has really covered this
topic... Seems not very common.

Thanks!
