Greetings to the group...
   When electricians install 10 ft ground rods ( that they haven't cut short ! )
they use a pipe with a cap on one end.  They put the pipe over the ground rod,
and lift and then slam it down so the cap hits the end of the ground rod and
drives it in like a pile driver.  Some of the more eleborate ones have handles
welded on the sides and weight added to the pipe for more "battering ram"
effect.
  I have also seen an attachment for a "rotary hammer drill" which turns the rod
while driving it in.
