I saw an ad for an "Extra Long Range 50-mile cordless phone"
on Ebay. The set per the text can use an indoor antenna or
something that looks like a UHF discone antenna for outside
use. Regardless of the outdoor antenna's gain, i do not see how,
legally, the home unit can reach 50 miles to a handheld unit, even
over a lake or desert plain, without its owner holding some kind of
FCC license. 50 miles is a stretch for business band equipment,
even when using power and higher antennas than presumably
the homeowner would with this antenna. The seller was very
unhappy with me questioning the ad text and the legality of such
an item. Your comments?
