Without getting into the pros and cons of the no radial antennas you might
consider this: WWVH uses a pair of center fed vertical dipoles on 15 MHz
and they have added ground a radial system to the antenna for better
performance. You can see a picture of the antenna at
http://www.boulder.nist.gov/timefreq/images/radiostations/wwvh-large/wwvh5.jpg
If you look close you can see the ground radials in the photo.
So while these antennas (sans radials) will "work" is seems that they work
better with a radial system. Just some food for thought.
