[Antennas] Slinky Antennas

Has anyone had any experience with these types of antenna?  They are seen
on EBay regularly.  They look pretty simple, two metal slinkys joined in
the middle by a support with an SO-239 connector.  Claims to be equal to
160' dipole.

I have two questions.  1) How well will thin spring steel radiate?  2) 
Is there some type of finish or coating on these things which night
inhibit proper radiation.

I am looking for a decent attic ant for 100 watts and, of course, a
tuner.  Most likely 10 - 80 Meters.
