Fernando, LU9FOQ;
The DB was dropped from the ARRL Antenna Handbooks after it was
determined it is no more efficient than a 1/2 wave dipole for the same
band. Double Bazooka's are expensive and time consuming to build, and
VERY expensive to buy, and for no more efficiency than a 1/2 wave dipole.
Best bet: install as much wire horizontally or Inverted Vee
configuration, feed via 600 ohm (www.w7fg.com ) or 450 ohm ladder line
via a tuner and you will be very surprised at performance. And, it is now
a multi-band antenna, whereas the Double Bazooka is not.
Yes, I have constructed a "DB"for 80 meters, while in the former Panama
Canal Zone circa the 1970's and 1980's and was greatly disappointed. Oh
it worked; but it certainly was not a quiet antenna!
Either RG-58 or RG-59 may be used. RG-11 is far too heavy and far to
wasteful to use if you are going to construct one.
