I recall some fellows out in 0 land operating on 1985 in a military
net on Tuesday evenings? Western MO, OK and maybe TX. One or two
strapping but others not all good copy here. A number of hams seem to
think that if a dipole at 40 feet works okay on 40 m., one at that
height will work on 160. Not true, unless you truly only want to work
stations not far away. But they will hear me calling CQ, call me, I
can't hear them, and I get flack for that. They have a great rx
antenna but not so good for transmit. As I have said before, with the
high cost of copper now, I don't expect folks to invest in an
extensive ground system but the vertical has to have something besides
a ground rod.
