Years ago, 7290 KHz was designated by some worldly power to be an AM
calling frequency.
There was never an imaginary "AM Window" on 40 meters.
The "AM Window" tag was generated by joke (secret handshake) by several
New England teenagers back in the "good old days" to meet up on 75
meters.
Today, it's still an imaginary tag that should be forgotten. You're
allowed to use the AM mode anywhere on the bands where phone is allowed
and your license allows.
It makes no sense to frequency limit yourself. AM operators don't operate
in a pen.
Yesterday afternoon around 4 PM EST (12/17/25), I heard (from NJ) three
QSO's on AM. One at 7295 KHz, one at 7290 KHz, and one at 7280 KHz.
Life is good!
