Personally, for what its worth, I would suggest leaving this reflector as
it is; a simple no frills, text based reflector, no attachments, no html
inserts, no color, etc. Under the amradio reflector are at least 20 years
worth of archived files which can be searched for specific items, or just
read in any manner a member wants to use. For the most part, the amradio
reflector is free and as far as I can see, maintenance probably would be
mainly customer/member issues.
groups.io is great if members want the ability to attach files or
pictures to their postings or embed the same within their postings. Sub
directories can also be applied to groups.io to store pdf type files,
pictures, or any html type files for member review at any time. The free
version of groups.io has very poor file storage capacity so you would
have to move up to the next level which has more storage and features but
comes at a cost which has to be collected and managed by the
administrators.
Facebook and any other social media, which generally generates pain,
frustration, and annoyance, should not be considered as a viable
alternative.
HOWEVER, if you want AM friendly places to post threads, post your
pictures, post your technical or non technical pdfs or other html type
attachments, do color, add a smiley, etc. there are two places where that
can be done.
An off shoot of this reflector is the web site
http://amfone.net/Amforum/index.php
It has generated 274,128 postings and there have been 27,867 discussion
topics.
Presently, the web site has 2902 members.
The web site is free, but there are many members who each year throw a
couple of bucks into the donation pot to pay for the server hosting,
renewal, etc.
Roughly two years ago Fred, AA7BQ, Owner of QRZ.com, also set up an
amplitude modulation forum,
https://forums.qrz.com/index.php?forums/amplitude-modulation.108/
Since its inception, it has generated 1118 discussions and 25,367
messages.
At this day, QRM.com has 927,040 members. Obviously, there are some
members there that have an AM interest.
The web site is free but there are some subscription services that can be
bought that adds additional features and functions to overall qrz.com .
So, in my opinion, groups.io or any other web based hosting area, should
not be considered. We don't need it. We already have two great web based
"AM" hosting web sites.
