I received some very helpful info on the Elmac mod problem, forwarded those emails to Gary, and from that info he determined that in fact his mod transformer was bad.  He installed a Ranger mod xfmr he had, and the AF67 is back in full mod, plus he has a line on a NOS Elmac xfmr.  So, thanks for the guiding light, good info can be found on this site without the static.
