Not too long back we were discussing the proposal of the FCC to institute a
fee for applications. During the discussion it was asked what current
actions the FCC has or will take to encroach on amateur spectrum. At the
time I recalled an action in the upper bands but could not recall it
specifically.
Yesterday I received my October copy of QST and in it on page 64 is a brief
under the heading FCC News. The DoD has rights to spectrum between 3300 to
3500 MHz with amateurs being secondary. Now the FCC will auction the upper
50 MHz of the Amateur spectrum to 5G interests giving them 3450 to 3980 for
5G.
The original proposal was to delete the Amateur secondary allocation between
3300 to 3500 completely which includes Amateur satellite allocations. All
this so kids can play games in real time. At least my memory is not totally
gone.
