Hi Mike(y),
Maybe things have changed since I renewed my vanity call license in 2016 for another 10 years at no charge.
Would you mind telling me how is it that you paid a $35 annual renewal fee on top of an initial $80 vanity callsign fee?

First of all, it is good to see that 'something' was a catalyst that
restored some activity on this board. Second the subject at hand. I can't
exactly recall when I requested a vanity license, which was nothing more
than changing it to be more geographically correct, (KC4SLK to W3SLK), that
being said I was charged a fee and I think that was around $80(?) for the
vanity call sign. But I paid a renewal fee every year with 2018 being
$35(?). I just charged it to my credit card and didn't think anything of it.
I do find it hard to believe that the FCC bases its budget on the fees they
acquire from Amateur Radio. I know they make a killing when they auction
those UHF/SHF frequencies off. There are licensing fees that are probably
much greater than that from us hams! $50 every 10 years, I'm ok with that.
If I don't renew within their scheduled time period then give my call sign
to someone else. I'm just pragmatic I guess.
Mod-U-Lator,
Mike(y)/W3SLK
