[AMRadio] FCC fees, I have been licensed since 1958 and have enjoyed this hobby very much.

To Rob and others. I certainly agree that SOME young people can afford to
shell out lots of money for "toys, trinkets and gadgets". I guess I'm a
bit jaded because the kids I work with and coach and test are NOT wealthy,
but have legitimate desires to be amateurs and not CB'ers. I have given
them old Radio Amateur's Handbooks, and in one case, an Astron power supply
to help them get on the air.
I'm not here to pat myself on the back. I'm here to report what I see
around me. I do agree with the "amateur radio is NOT a commercial service"
statements. I also agree that $50 is not a lot of money to some of us,
(me). But since my only first-hand experience is with these kids in my
area, I felt I should comment.
Also, I am so glad we can have these DISCUSSIONS, that don't degenerate
into personal attacks and name calling. Some have raised good points and
we certainly should pursue them.
73 to all.
Bob, K5INW
