> I was trying to remember how long a ham ticket lasted back when I was first licensed in the 60's and how much it cost. I know the Novice was one year but after I upgraded 6 months in, not sure how long that was supposed to be good for. I do remember sending the FCC in Gettysburg my form 610 and a USPS money order obtained with hard earned kid work money, and was so excited I did not complain. My Novice ticket is still hanging in what used to be my shack, but right now my grand daughter is sleeping in there and the last thing I want to do is wake her up looking at the frame hanging on the wall. I would, but if she woke up, she would not go back to sleep until about 1AM.

Renewable licenses were good for 5 years. Novice 1 year then later
they changed it to two years. The fee to take the test which was
non-refundable was 8 bucks. I'm pretty sure I remember that correctly
but who knows, that was what, almost 50 years ago for me. So that 8
dollars was not a license fee, it was an _application_ fee.
