[AMRadio] FCC fees, I have been licensed since 1958 and have enjoyed this hobby very much.

Just a ramblin' thought...
Wouldn't it be nice for the FCC to have little to no resistance to
putting slots of amateur radio frequencies currently in use up for bid?

I mean, if the $50 fee scares off even those who do use the frequencies
(as I know some who by chance are like me and am on SS Disability), it
would take a pretty sizable slice out of the Amateur Radio population!

There are a lot of hams using these frequencies and modes getting "Long
in the tooth" and, have well established shacks capable of many modes
and frequencies and, are well trained in the art of Amateur Radio. These
hams can be an image of What an Amateur Radio Operator can be and do!

I think two things should happen...
1 - The Amateur Radio community should rally alongside the ARRL to
oppose the FCC's proposed fee increase with a fervor!

2 - With many Ham modes becoming more "Digital" in nature, those hams
who are established and "seasoned" should push to appeal to young
persons who are cutting their baby teeth on Digital things to become
"Real and well trained Amateur Radio Operators"! Not Hams which, as I
have seen, is viewed by many young persons as "Doc Brown" types and are
"Cooky" in nature! (Well, the "Cooky" part might be instilled in the
breed and unavoidable). :-)

Tubes are probably what drives most of the Hams on this list and
probably CW too. But, it is the Digital, which must be the light that is
Shone on Amateur Radio if we are to keep the breed alive, the cost
reasonable and, the frequencies ours!

The "Tube" stuff, and, "CW" can wait to be offered to those who develop
a more "romantic" relationship with the hobby! And, I think the ARRL and
local clubs need to Re-think their approach towards making Amateur Radio
more appealing to the younger "Digital" generation!

Notice that I stated above "Real and well trained Amateur Radio
Operators" I don't want to see "CB" or "Part 15 Cereal Box" operators on
ANY amateur band either!

My $.02... Plus a smattering of ""'s. :-)
