I wonder how much it would be if we did not have to enter, maintain, modify the data in the Universal Licensing System ourselves? Hams are the FCC's biggest customer with 720K licenses compared to about 17,000 radio and TV stations in the US, and about 87,000 towns in the US that may have their own licenses for public radio services, where many have migrated to cell phones instead, as have many businesses that used to have 2 way radio. If distribution of license dates was smooth, that would be 72,000 hams a year needing to renew online, but how much physical manipulation by an FCC staffer is a pretty big unknown. Of course, the CB craze in the 70's became such a burden licensing, and enforcement wise, the FCC said the heck with it, you don't need a license. Except for new ham licenses that apparently still need a form to be filed or entered into a database and then shredded, we will probably never know exactly what kind of 'workload' we represent in day to day activity of the FCC. I'm sure the FCC looks at that $50 ticket like $5 a year, who would get upset over that?
