I may have sent this before, but it would have been a couple years ago perhaps. My Heath RX 1 always worked well, had good sensitivity, I had gone through it a couple times over the years, and recently had it on the bench for switch and pot cleaning. I thought about the issue I had when the Ameco preamp used for the converter band with the XC-6 threw me a curve and led me to tear into the RX-1. A fine tooth comb internal search for what was an outside of the cabinet problem, discovered the 470pf caps on the input and output of the 1st IF 50KC amp were bad, showing a slight leakage on the eye tube of the cap checker, but good values. I swapped them both, figured out why the Ameco preamp was a red herring, and the receiver started working better than ever. They are kind of hard to dig down to, but if you have an RX-1 and you think it ought to work better than it appears to be, check out those caps. Even the most minuscule leakage will affect that stage.
