Oh, I heard of this guy a few years ago when he was starting out and
planning on doing this. He must have bought the WECo brand from
someone, (similar was done with RCA) and built his tube factory. I'm
glad hot glass is being made in USA again. I wonder where he got the
Sealex equipment etc. Maybe they're all blown and evacuated by hand
like that guy in France does. Same thing is happening with vinyl
pressing in U.S. I hope there's enough demand for these guys to stay
in business. If they can at least make audio bottles that would be
great, although I won't be a customer.
It also remains to be seen if the new WECos hold up like the real ones.
I can definitely say that after years of HF radio listening, my ears
can't tell the difference between my old Eico HF-14 and the high
dollar high fi stuff. I'll bet a tube amp with the same design and
parts but with 807s would sound the same to me as one of those 300B
jobs. Bill KD0HG (SK) published a three part article in ER on a
homebrew home stereo audio amp system and his design took great pains
to make it flat and wide response. He did a lot of research going
back to Williamson and it looked like a winner. It was a three part
article starting in June 1993: "A Premier Quality Homebrew Stereo
Amplifier."
