Try to look at this:

The expense isn't all that high.
The ICs are readily available. The Trimble board IS out of production!
Other GPS receivers that provide a 1PPS output WILL do the same thing.
This provides an extremely accurate 10MHZ sine wave output!
Propagation just does not provide an accurate and reliable signal from WWV.
There are too many instances when WWV cannot be picked up at all.
