No this is not a vintage radio, but have a question about its output power rating. Working on one for a friend who hopes to sell it to one of the folks that are going nutty over 6 meter FT8, and it is only putting out a bit over 6 watts of unmodulated AM. Now it is rated for 25 watts out for SSB, which is a bit odd. If it rated for 25 watts output of SSB, then if it was supposed to put out 10 watts of AM carrier, that would be 40 watts peak at 100% mod, which asks the question, why isn't it rated for 40 watts SSB PEP? The March 2002 ARRL review of the unit lists carrier power out at "...10 watts typical...", they did not give a real power out number like 10 watts. I asked the ARRL TIS about this and the reply was to expect something around 6 watts of AM carrier...which is what I get, and that works out to 24 watts PEP 100% mod, which is about what I get in SSB, and makes more sense than claiming 10 watts out. So, if you own one of these things, do you know what your unmodulated AM power out is?
