Actually, there was also the SX-62A Mark 2 and SX-62A Mark 2A.
Once upon a time, I believe there was a discussion on the Hallicrafters
reflector (qth.net) years ago identifying some of the differences (none
of which were major eye rolling stuff) on the various SX-62's.
Unfortunately the search function for pulling specific threads/posts on
the Hallicrafters reflector and a number of other reflectors, was located
on the w9wze.net web site (Duane's Hallicrafters site) and now this site
has been "suspended". There might have been some information also on the
Hallicrafters site itself. I don't remember but you can probably use the
Internet archive function to view portions of the site.
>From memory, the move from SX-62 to SX-62A added changes to audio output
speaker impedance. There was also an addendum that changed two octal
tubes to 7 pin miniatures. Can't remember if this was in the SX-62 or
SX-62A. The SX-62A, SX-62A Mark 2 and 2A had cosmetic differences in the
front panel and the knobs were different over the original SX-62. It's
conceivable that minor circuit changes and component changes were also
done over this wide variety of codes in this entire family. The SX-62B
had two less tubes then the rest of the series but I have no memory of
what they were, function, or if there was major circuit redistribution to
cover their removal.
You asked, "Does anyone have the serial number range for each"
I don't know of anyone who would have had this information. I doubt that
even Hallicrafters retained that information. Who would have cared back
then in the 50's.
I believe all the SX-62, 62A, etc. models had the same schematic
identifying number in the lower right of the drawing, 890282- (letter
suffix). The letter suffix probably was used for the specific model that
the schematic covered and was shipped with. After 50 plus years, the
schematic you have may only be close to the receiver you have.
Hallicrafters was well known for doing undocumented changes on the
factory floor in circuitry and components and not following up on
documentation to identify changes to the customers.
