[AMRadio] Nye Viking Tuner question

A question for any Nye Viking MB V tuner owners.  In my effort to figure out what 'limited coverage of 160' means in the Nye tuner manual, so far it means it won't tune  my 130ft wire fed single conductor style with the transmit end of the ladder line shorted together.  The Heath 2060 tunes this just fine to 160 configured like that.    So I open it up to take a look inside.  Does anybody know why the 25 turn coil has the first and last turn shorted respectively to the turn next to it, effectively making it a 23 turn coil?  While one end does look factory made with teflon wire going to the 24th turn and a braided line to the 25th from that teflon wire, the other end seems to be an add on.  Why remove two full turns?
