Thank you for the replies Rolynn and Lee. I did download the AC-400 manual previously and studied the design, but still am wondering why a supply would be done this way? What is there to gain? Also, what is the function of the extra diode D-13 in the Low B+?

It is a stacked power supply. A 500V supply is on top of the 350V supply to produce 850V for
the high B+.
It is designed that way. See page three.
