[AMRadio] Just an evil thought round tables

Perhaps I should clarify a bit about my comment on round tables. It seems
that I am never able to fully express my complete thoughts. The old,50s
style where every one "knows" one another and sort of checks in to keep
up to date on children, vacation, health, gear, etc etc are fine with me. as
are groups like the Collins collector net. ETC.
The ones that bother me are like being in a restaurant with your wife or
friends and someone that no one knows comes over to you and says as they
pull out a chair and sit down, "you don't mind if I join you". I actually
had that happen once and the SOB started eating my bread!! That was in my
younger, calmer days, and I just asked the waitress for another table and
moved. Now that I am on the real short end of the stick I do not give a
rats "tail" I would probably be on them like a dog on a bone, and yes,
probably get whopped. But it would be worth it!!! I keep feeling like
this modern tread comes from CB, or perhaps from those who are not
comfortable talking on air, understandable, and cured by forcing oneself to
just try. Sort of like slow CW, just keep at it and it improves.

The other thing that bothers me a bunch is when a SSB station comes back,
and does not know I am on A.M. I tell them that I am on A.M. and that it
takes a bit of time for all the relays and my old hands to work so please
make longer transmissions, and they persist in three or four word
transmissions and silence, and I am left to wonder did they die, turn it
back or what. And yep I will work SSB if they call me, even had CW call me
once and worked him. A lot of the SSB guys seem to get interested and
about half will try to get the rice box working on A.M. . Bernie W8RPW
