[AMRadio] Just an evil thought round tables

Somehow the idea of a round table got all messed up.  In my past, a round table was maybe a group of 4 to 6 hams, that you could fit around a dinner table and you knew each one and notes were not an issue, BECAUSE no one was long winded.  How fun it was on a cold winter night to set in front of the radio and chat, just chat.  You remember the one line sentence with a pause of dead air.  You had time to breath, get a cup of coffee, let the cat out and not miss a thing.  Those were the days on 160 and 80 meter AM that I cherish.  Oh well,

Mel, K6KBE

Happens here all the time too Bernie!  But in AM QSOs on 40 meters.  What really ticks me off is some LID breaks in and doesn't even acknowledge everyone in the group, but just maybe one guy.  Then he never continues on with the present topic but changes the subject and yes, he may say he is not hearing everyone in the group.  I too find it impossible to carry on a nice conversation with more then three guys in a QSO.

I have no interest at all in round tables and in general I will not
acknowledge break in stations, nor will I break into some one else's QSO.
If it gets above three in a group I just leave and go somewhere else.   I
have heard round tables at the high end of 75 that must have ten or more,
how do you take notes and sort that out? By the time it gets around the
group the topic has changed so much that any notes taken early are no longer
relevant.  I have heard  some break in stations that could only hear one
party! what do you expect that person to do, relay all the comments??  Guess
that is a good reason to stay on the higher freq bands, longer skip sorts
out some of that.   Bernie W8RPW
